Among the many entries in the Founders Day Parade in Medical Lake was the 1942 fire truck which was used for special events by the Cheney Fire Department. Driven by Tim Steiner, the vintage vehicle provided a bright perch for the West Plains Community fair queen and her court.

Leo Kincaid of Medical Lake rescued a 3-year-old boy from an accidental drowning. The young child took off toward a nearby duck pond at Spokane's Manito Park and went underwater instantly.
