SCSO's tips for vehicle prowling prevention

The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Crime Prevention Unit is cautioning residents to be aware of potential vehicle prowlings.

According to a news release, vehicle prowls can happen when a driver is a few minutes away from their vehicle.

Deputies recommend when a person arrives at their destination and are earching for a parking spot, they should choose one close to other people and activity. At night, motorists should park nearby lighting sources to keep their vehicle well-lit.

Residents should make sure their vehicle’s windows are closed and all doors are locked.

All items should not left in the vehicle in open view. Leave these items at home, place them in the trunk or hide them out of view.

Residents should also scan the area before they exit their car — pay attention and look for anything that seems out of place. Prowlers will sometimes watch for people as they leave their cars. If a resident sees suspicious activity, they should call Crime Check at (509) 456-233.
