Stepping up to help women make life choices

Letters to the Editor

I am responding to only one part of your Opinion piece in last week’s paper (“Not taking a stance diminishes discussion,” In Our Opinion, April 27), when you asked “To those who oppose abortion, how often have you stepped forward and volunteered physical, emotional and financial assistance to women who find themselves in the situation of having to consider terminating a new life?”

I am not going to try to convince you of a different stance, but I want you to be aware, there are several organizations in the Spokane area that are filled with people who are doing just that. They are standing up with those that choose to carry their babies to birth and help during that difficult decision making period.

Life Services in Spokane help with ultrasounds and counseling and so much more. Path of Life also helps with before and after choices.

But right here in the West Plains area we have YoungLives. It is an organization that helps to mentor and support teen moms. Our goals are to help them overcome barriers, and help them succeed and change the trajectory of their lives.

In all of these services it takes many who are stepping forward volunteering physical, emotional and financial assistance to women right here in our area, and there are several groups in Spokane.

We can always use more help in all areas; physically, emotionally and financially. We could also use help getting our message out that we are here to help. I am looking forward to many others to step forward to help in some way.
