Alcohol abuse subject of Airway Heights meeting

April is Alcohol Awareness Month. On Tuesday, April 18, from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. the Washington State Al-Anon Family Groups, District 2 Public Outreach will be presenting “Do You Love an Alcoholic? Al-Anon is For You.” The presentation will be at Spokane County Library Airway Heights Branch located at 1213 S. Lundstrom St. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, 16.3 million people aged 12 or older are heavy alcohol users in the United States. It is estimated that for each of these problem drinkers, there are six friends and/or family members who are affected by the drinker. One in four children deal with the disastrous effects of a parent’s alcoholism.

During April Alcohol Awareness Month, Al-Anon shines a light on the people who are affected by a love one’s drinking. While alcohol may be a legal substance, when it is abused it causes devastating effects for the drinkers and their loved ones.

At the April 18 meeting, three panelists will share about how Al-Anon helps friends and families of problem drinkers. Question and answer time, free literature and light refreshments will be provided. Helping professionals, students planning to become helping professionals and others interested in learning about Al-Anon family groups are welcome to attend.

Please RSVP for the meeting at D2Outreach@aol.com.
