Several locations in the Cheney area had fliers promoting “white pride” distributed on their property according to Police Chief Jeff Sale.
Eastern Washington University hired the executive search firm of A.T. Kearney to assist it in finding a new president for the school to replace the outgoing Stephen Jordan.
Both EWU men’s and women’s basketball teams were to face challenging schedules their coaches announced. The Mike Burns’ led Eagle men would play Marquette in the Great Alaska Shootout while the Eagle women would face Pac 12 California in the Women’s NIT.

Three new housing developments, Golden Hills, Hampton Commons and Cheney Paradise Estates, were projected to offer up to 300 new homes according to developer Steve Worthington.
Crews from Shamrock Paving were busy in Cheney playing “catch up” with projects that had not been completed the previous year.
The EWU board of trustees approved an operating budget of $94.5 million and a capital spending plan totaling $21.4 million for fiscal year 1996.

The Cheney Rodeo Association hosted an appearance of the Royal Lippizan Stallions at the rodeo arena.
The NCAA cleared the EWU athletic department of any wrongdoing over an issue involving a check donated to the school’s football team. The check was cashed at a local restaurant and not deposited in the booster account, a situation that was quickly corrected following the NCAA’s visit.
The final day of Cheney High School’s summer football camp was completed with players receiving early instruction from coaches in preparation for the Sept. 13 opener.

The upcoming race for the Cheney City Council would include incumbents Tom Showalter, Fred Johns and Bill Wynd. Area school board elections included D.P. Prekeges and Ron Tan in Cheney along with George Spilker and Loren Von Lehe in Medical Lake.
A trio of Cheney swimmers earned first-place finishes in a 353-105 win over a team from the Spokane Valley’s Park Pool. Kathy Albright, Kevin McNeal and Lisa Morrow all won three events for Cheney.

Architects were busy finishing plans for a new Cheney High School and planned to have them ready for view sometime in September.
The Medical Lake City Council passed an ordinance approving the Washington Water Power Company’s request to provide natural gas to the community.
The Medical Lake Falcons baseball team saw their season come to an end with a 15-11 loss to Chattaroy. Top hitters for the team included Ricky South, John Lund and Rod Von Lehe.
