Lady Hawks wallop West Valley 20-1 in GNL softball

Cheney travels to Colville for showdown for first place Saturday

Lady Hawks' catcher Shay Turner connects for a base hit in the third inning of Cheney's 20-1 win over visiting West Valley.

Cheney High's softball team headed into spring break on a high note, thanks to a 20-1, five-inning victory over visiting Great Northern League rival West Valley last Thursday.

The Lady Hawks really got all they would need in the first inning, opening the scoring on Amy Anderson's one-out RBI double down the line in left, followed by Shay Turner's 2-RBI double up the middle to center. Julia Boyd's two-out single into the centerfield-right field gap scored Turner to make it 4-0.

Cheney added two more in the third on a two-out, 2-RBI double by Boyd, and then blew the game open with 14 runs in...
