Cheney man succumbs to crash injuries

A Cheney man was killed in a collision on west State Route 904 near milepost 5 last Thursday evening.

According to a Washington State Patrol news release, Justin R. Travis, 37, had stopped his 2010 GMC Yukon and boat trailer partially on the shoulder of the road while waiting for his home’s entry gate to open, partially blocking the westbound lanes. Travis’ trailer was struck from behind by a 2004 Mitsubishi Lancer driven by Richard S. Durling, 28. The impact pushed the trailer into the Yukon, totaling both vehicles and the trailer.

Durling was transported to Sacred Heart Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries. The news release noted Travis’ blinker was on, and the cause of the accident as excessive speed and inattention.

Neither Justin Travis nor his passenger, Courtney Travis, 36, was injured. All three men are from Cheney, and were wearing seat belts.
