Area students graduate from several universities

A number of Cheney students graduated from their respective universities and college this year.

Kevin Thomas, a resident of Cheney, received a master of science in operations research during the May 2012 Southern Methodist University commencement ceremony. After the university-wide commencement, SMU's schools and departments held individual receptions throughout the day to honor graduates.

SMU is a nationally ranked private university in Dallas founded 100 years ago. Today, SMU enrolls nearly 11,000 students who benefit from the academic opportunities and international reach of seven degree-granting schools.

Brett Moriarty has attended Butler Community College for the past two years. He graduated with a 4.0 GPA and was awarded the Hubbard Award of Excellence at their May 12 graduation. Moriarty is a 2009 graduate of Medical Lake High School. His first year out of high school, he served as a Washington FFA State Officer and then proceeded to Butler on a Livestock Judging Scholarship. He will attend Texas A&M in the fall.

Three Cheney students also graduated from the University of Washington this month.

Edward Liu, bachelor's of science in informatics; Aaron Pollack, bachelor's of arts in political science; Katherine Terpstra, bachelor's of science in biology.
