    Updated Dec 6, 2013

Continuing his high-scoring ways, Eastern guard Tyler Harvey has been selected as this week's Big Sky Conference Player of the Week after his 30-point performance against Seattle University in an 82-75 victory Nov. 29 at Reese Court. He is a sophomore from Torrance, Calif., and graduated from Bishop Montgomery High School in 2011. Harvey made 9-of-15 shots from the field, including 6-of-9 3-point attempts, and also sank all six of his free throws. He has now averaged 18.6...

  • Eastern women return to Reese for long home stand

FROM STAFF AND NEWS SERVICE REPORTS|Updated Dec 6, 2013

The Eastern Washington women’s basketball team’s most recent road trip came up empty as they went winless in a pair of games last weekend in Las Vegas. Now Eastern will be home through the entire month of December and into the first week of 2014 with a seven-game home stand shooting to get momentum heading into conference play. The Eagles were unable to overcome a nine-minute scoring drought spanning the end of the first half and the start of the second, falling, 74-51, to Butler last Saturday, Nov. 30 in the South Point Tha...

  • T.J. Lee three-peats as member of All-Big Sky team

    from news service reports|Updated Dec 6, 2013

Little did his parents know that T.J. Lee III would stand for three-peat. The Eastern Washington University cornerback headlined a list of 25 Eagles honored on the All-Big Sky Conference team Nov. 26 by earning first team honors for the third-straight season. The 2009 graduate of West Seattle High School became only the third Eagle in school history – and the first on defense -- to accomplish that feat. In fact, only 45 total players in the 50-year history of the league h...

  • Baldwin is Big Sky's top coach

    PAUL DELANEY, Staff Reporter|Updated Dec 6, 2013

It would have been pretty hard to overlook the accomplishments of Eastern Washington's head football coach Beau Baldwin this year. He was the man in charge of the Eagles march to a perfect 8-0 record – EWU's first undefeated league finish – in Big Sky play and the school's first undisputed conference title since 1997. But as Baldwin acknowledged his selection as the Big Sky Conference's Coach of the Year, his second in a row, he was quick to point out that it is his sup...

  • Zenner is SDSU's big threat

    PAUL DELANEY, Staff Reporter|Updated Dec 6, 2013

The South Dakota Jackrabbits appear aptly named if Zach Zenner shows up in Cheney like he did last Saturday in Flagstaff for this Saturday’s second round playoff game at 1 :05 p.m. at Roos Field. Zenner rushed for 249 yards and two touchdowns on 30 carries against Northern Arizona as SDSU scored the last 26 points of the game in Jackrabbits’ 26-7 win over the Lumberjacks in the opening round of the FCS playoffs. The junior had 235 of his yards through the first three qua...

  • Armstrong's retirement comes at right time

    JAMES EIK, Staff Reporter|Updated Dec 6, 2013

A new chapter is begging for the Seattle Mariners. Last week, Mariners President and Chief Operating Officer Chuck Armstrong announced his retirement at the end of January 2014. Let’s be honest, given the history of the franchise, it’s long overdue. With a 2,145-2,321 (.480) record in his tenure with the Mariners, Armstrong’s teams weren’t able to break even in his 30-plus years of service since 1983, with some time off between 1990-1992. From the fan perspective, and from a shareholder’s perspective, that means we didn’t ge...

  • Harvey's 30 leads Eagles to win over Seattle U

    PAUL DELANEY, Staff Reporter|Updated Dec 6, 2013

Tyler Harvey was disappointed about the four turnovers he committed in last Friday's basketball game with Seattle University. The sophomore found a way to make up for it, however, scoring a career-high 30 points to lead Eastern Washington to an 82-75 nonconference victory over the Redhawks at Reese Court. While Harvey threw down 6-of-9 3-pointers and 9-of-15 from the field, it was his perfect work from the free throw line (6-of-6), especially in the final minute – and more s...
