That’s where things stand as the Eagles close out the regular season of Big Sky Conference play on Senior Day, Saturday, Nov. 18 when they entertain the Portland State Vikings in a 3:12 p.m. kickoff at Roos Field. Eastern’s 21-14 win a week ago against the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks was a victory that snapped a tw...

  • For Eagle football players it's a lesson hopefully learned

    PAUL DELANEY, Staff Reporter|Updated Nov 16, 2017

It certainly wasn’t the kind of coverage Gage Gubrud was used to seeing in print. Even following back-to-back losses, his Eastern Washington University Eagle football team had endured that has put their nearly almost automatic playoff season teetering on the tightrope. He and teammate Kurt Calhoun’s official photos used as a “perp walk” in print across the area, and beamed around on television news. Personally, the best photos of the All-American record-setting EWU quarter...

  • Blackhawks give good account at state swimming

    John McCallum, Editor|Updated Nov 16, 2017

A season that began with a little uncertainty ended with a lot of promise for the future for the Cheney High School girls swimming team. The Blackhawks began 2017 absent several prominent swimmers from 2016 due to graduation, but ended by sending a good contingent to the 2A state meet last Saturday at the Federal Way Aquatics Center. Cheney sent one individual swimmer and one relay team to the consolation finals Saturday evening. Courtney Hanson advanced to the B Final in the 100-yard freestyle. The junior posted a 57.52...

    PAUL DELANEY, Staff Reporter|Updated Nov 16, 2017

New Eastern Washington men's basketball coach Shantay Legans will be out to prove the polls wrong. In 2016-17 as an assistant to head coach Jim Hayford, who dashed off to Seattle University, Legans helped guide the Eagles to a runner-up finish in the Big Sky Conference after the team was predicted to finish as high as fifth or as low as seventh. Eastern has again been tabbed sixth in media voting and seventh by the coaches in the annual poll released Friday, Oct. 13. Idaho, We...
