    John McCallum, Editor|Updated Aug 21, 2015

Cheney and Spokane police departments combined forces last week to put an end to a burglary ring responsible for at least eight break-ins in the Salnave area since July 20 — and possibly more than that in Spokane. Cheney Police Sgt. Rick Beghtol said evidence from an Aug. 10 burglary of a residence on the 700 block of Clover Street pointed to an apparent suspect, which was further confirmed by a “reliable source.” That burglary included theft of a firearm. Beghtol and Detective Justin Hobbs then conducted a stakeout of the su...

  • Getting right mix is key for EWU soccer success

    Paul Delaney, Staff Reporter|Updated Aug 20, 2015

In his rookie season as head soccer coach at Eastern Washington University in 2014, Chad Bodnar had plenty on his plate as he transitioned from the community college level in Walla Walla to NCAA Division I. Bodnar, however, saved some room for dessert as he also helped turn a struggling program around with an all-time record for Big Sky Conference wins with five and qualified the Eagles for the playoffs. Now comes a significant challenge in year two as Bodnar's first...

Porter named him Conner, a name he could easily remember. One day, men from the police department appeared. “We’re here, Porter, to ask you some questions. We want true answers.” Porter tried to smile but noticed the officers were not smiling. “What’s the problem, sir?” The officers stood, unwavering, “Several boys at the school who have been finishing...

  • Consider donating to Planned Parenthood

    Updated Aug 20, 2015

For those of you opposed to abortion, would you consider making a money donation to Planned Parenthood “designated” for long-term contraception for young girls? I’m sure they would be happy to accept that. No teenager needs a baby to care for as her adult dreams are forming, and many cannot afford this more expensive kind of contraception that lasts for years. We all need to take positive steps to prevent abortion ever arising as an option. Roz Luther Spokane...
