The Cheney High School gymnastics team had six of their eight varsity athletes qualify for regionals after their performances at districts on Jan. 26 in the Tri-Cities. “Cheney gymnastics had a great meet,” head coach Jamie Frucci said. “Alexis Miller really shined and showed great mental toughness throughout the meet. The Cheney High girls basketball team dropped a pair of Great Northern League games last week to the Spokane Valley schools. The Lady Blackhawks lost a tight contest to visiting West Valley, 53-47, on Tuesday, Jan. 23, and despite staying close to East Valley on the road, eventually fell to the top-ranked 2A Knights 63-55 Saturday. The Cheney High boys basketball team pulled off a sweep of the Great Northern League’s Spokane Valley schools last week — the crowning jewel of which was a 22-point thumping of second-place West Valley.
