    An individual believed to be an Eastern Washington University student apparently took his own life after a short chase through Cheney by area law enforcement. In a Jan. 23 news release, Cheney police department Capt. Rick Beghtol said on the evening of Jan. 22, Cheney officers received information of a possibly armed, suicidal person in a vehicle near the area of Betz Road and Washington Street.     Wayne Hull passed away in Spokane on Jan. 19 from complications of the flu and pneumonia. He was born March 18, 1927 in St. John, Wash. and spent his early years in Cheney. He joined the Navy in 1945, then returned to farming where he met the love of his life, Karen Smith, in 1949. He spent the majority of his career working for Boyle and Banner Fuel in Spokane until retiring in 1989. He will be missed by all who knew him.     Spokane International Airport announced that 2017 established new record totals for passengers and air cargo activity. According to a Jan. 23 news release, passenger count totaled 3,550,912, exceeding the previous record of 3,472,901 reached in 2007. Air cargo totaled 72,376.3 tons, or 144,752,600 pounds in 2017, exceeding the previous record of 69,217.6 tons set in 2015.
