On Monday, Aug. 6, a series of fires were started along Interstate 90 between Cheney and Medical Lake. Ultimately called the Silver Lake, as of Thurs., Aug. 9 the blaze was listed at having consumed 340 acres of timber, grass and farm land. Updated mapping of the fire shows there is 11 miles of fire line around these 2 fires
The fire forced periodic closures of the freeway and was battled by resources from a variety of agencies. As of 8 a.m. on Aug. 9, the Washington Department of Natural Resources reported that Currently for day shift there are 117 personnel assigned to the fire including 3 hand crews, 20 fire engines and 4 water tenders. The fire is currently 43 percent contained.
