July is parks and recreation month in Airway Heights

July kicked off parks and recreation month and the department in Airway Heights has a whole month of activities to help celebrate.

One activity lasting until July 30 is a National Parks and Recreation photo contest. The organization is holding weekly themed photo contests, and the Airway Heights parks and recreation department wants to see pictures of people discovering something about the town.

People can post their pictures and use the hashtag #NRPAdiscoverychallenge to be entered. The weekly contests are as follows:

• July 9-15 — "Where did you go?" Show somewhere new that you went to be eligible to win a CamelBak hydration pack, REI Co-op two-person tent and a Black Diamond headlamp.

• July 16-22 — "How did you get active?" Show a new way you chose to get active to be eligible to win a FitBit Versa smart watch.

• July 23-30 — "What did you learn?" Show something that you learned or lessons you took away from your discoveries to be eligible to win an Osprey Farpoint travel pack.

The next event is on July 13 at Sunset Park for a Pixar movie trivia game. Participants can test their knowledge of all things Pixar before the Motion Auto Supply summer moonlight movie, “A Bug’s Life.” Winners will be awarded a stocked movie snack pack to enjoy during the film.

The next activity is a lifetime of discovery activity booklet. People can pick up a Parks and Recreation month packet and if somebody completes every page and turns it in before the start of the outdoor movie “Jumanji” on July 27, they will be entered into a drawing for a Discovery prize basket. The winner should be announced before the start of the movie and the person has to be present to win.

Also during the entire month of July, any time somebody signs up for an Airway Heights parks and recreation program and use #DiscoverJuly in the notes section, they will be entered in their program prize drawing that is worth $50.
