Time for unified fireworks display in Medical Lake

Letter to the Editor

The Fourth of July will soon be here once again. Few people really know much about the actual history of how the original colonies declared their freedom from being ruled by England and all that was involved.

We need much more education about the founding of our country and what it should stand for. Anyway, I continue to look forward to the time when every person’s freedom will be honored, including the freedom to have a quiet, sane and safe holiday celebration. I continue to advocate for public fireworks displays in place of the private use of fireworks, which have been responsible for so much damage to persons and property over the years.

Here in Medical Lake we’ve had two very successful public fireworks displays — the holiday celebration and Founder’s Day. These public displays bring the community together in solidarity and in spirit of neighborliness instead of each person doing their own thing which, often brings great pain to others.

Once again I thank everyone for being willing to at least listen to my continued pleas for a more peaceful Fourth of July that will give everyone something to look forward to.

Thomas E. Durst
