The Cheney Baseball Association U15 Summerhawks got their 2018 baseball season underway last Saturday against University’s American Legion Single A team. After falling behind 7-1, the Summerhawks rallied with two runs in the third and eighth innings, and six more in the top of the ninth, but fell short in a 12-11 loss.

Cheney’s offense stroked 11 hits, three by James Whiteley and two apiece by Gabe Gerber and Kasey Barsness. Barsness had four RBIs to pace the Summerhawks in scoring.

Cheney is off until June 13 when they kick off the meat of their schedule by playing Riverside’s AA club. The Summerhawks’ schedule also features play at a Father’s Day weekend tournament, the annual American Legion Wood Bat Classic the first week in July and the Panhandle Blazer 16U tournament later that month.
