Airway Heights lists summer outdoor movies

With the warmer weather in the West Plains, the Airway Heights parks and recreation department announced the Motion Auto Supply summer moonlight movie series in Sunset Park. The movies are free and open to the public and start at dusk.

The first film on June 15 is "Moana."

This Disney movie shows the journey of a teenager that takes on a mission to save her people. During the adventure, she meets a once-mighty demigod, Maui. The two team up to sail across the ocean and go against some impossible odds.

Next on the lineup is the sponsor's pick, "The Great Outdoors" on June 29.

This feature stars John Candy and Stephanie Faracy, that have a role of parents. The family goes out for a weekend of fishing at a Wisconsin lakeside cabin when an obnoxious brother-in-law and wife crash the scene.

Third on the list is the parks and recreation choice, "A Bug's Life" on July 13.

The film is a Disney and Pixar classic that stars an ant, Filk, who has always messed things up for his colony, but his biggest mistake was destroying the food storage to pay off a grasshopper in charge. To try to make up for it, Filk goes on a journey to recruit some fighters to defend his colony.

On July 27, the original "Jumanji" is showcased. Even though this movie was just redone last year, the first one made in 1995 is featured.

This film is about a magical board game that when a few kids in the neighborhood start to play it, they become a part of the actual game. They go on a quest to defeat the game so they can go back to their normal lives.

With anticipation of the sequel coming out earlier in the season, the department will feature "The Incredibles" on Aug. 10.

This is another Disney and Pixar film that has a sequel being released on June 14. The first movie is about a family that is forced to live normal lives after their super hero powers are banned by the government. But soon enough their town is in trouble and they have to do something to save it.

Rounding out the entertainment will be the Airway Heights Days special feature, "Back to the Future" on Aug. 17.

In this 1980s sci-fi classic, a small-town California teen Marty McFly is taken back to the 1950s when a scientist friend Doc Brown has an experiment go awry. McFly then has encounters with the younger versions of his parents and has to make them fall in love again to make sure he can still exist in the future.
