With the warm weather coming up, there are a lot of opportunities in the West Plains to keep the young ones busy. One of those places includes the Airway Heights public library, located at 1213 Lundstrom St.

One of the consistent groups meeting weekly is the summer LEGO club, taking place on Wednesdays from 3 – 4 p.m. The first gathering takes place on June 6 and runs until Aug. 29.

Another core group will be the Family Play and Learn Storytime for ages toddler – 5 years old on Thursdays from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. The kids enjoy some learning exercises along with 30 minutes of stories, songs and finger plays.

On June 21 from noon – 2:30 p.m., the library will host giant sidewalk games that include a 10-foot wide checker board. Also featured is a Connect Four game that is 4-feet tall along with a 2-foot tall chess piece game.

During the same day, there will be an escape room set up with the theme of the “backstage challenge” at 3 and 3:45 p.m. Registration for those events started on May 22.

Along with these activities, there will also be music groups visiting the West Plains location. On June 20, Eric Herman is set to perform from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. The other group will be Habiba’s Village: Inspiring Community Stories. They will use songs and have audience participation throughout their story telling.

On June 28, “Touch a Bus Storytime” takes place from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. The book “Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus” will be read by a local bus driver and have other entertaining stories about buses. The attendees then get to explore a Spokane Transit Authority bus.

The same day, Radical Rick and the Science of Sound stops by the meeting room at the library to help kids take part in experiments and learn how sound travels through the air and through solids. Registration begins on May 29 for this event.
