Cheney fire department holds May 12 open house

The Cheney Fire Department is holding an open house on Saturday May 12. The event is sponsored by Cheney Professional Firefighters Local 1919 in conjunction with the Cheney Volunteer Firefighters and the Cheney Fire Department.

In addition to the Mayfest activities throughout the downtown, the firefighters invite the whole community to come by the station at 611 Fourth St. between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. There will be continuous tours of the station and trucks, demonstrations and displays of fire and emergency medical equipment.

This includes a new automated CPR compression device and a new video laryngoscope for advanced airway maintenance. In a May 2 news release, department officials said the open house “is a great opportunity for the public to ask questions to the firefighters, and kids should have a fun time dressing up like firefighters and climbing through the fire trucks.”

Besides the Cheney apparatus, Life Flight will also land a helicopter and be on hand for questions and demonstrations. The Cheney Professional Firefighters are also sponsoring free hotdogs, beverages and popcorn for everyone.
