Michael Anderson Elementary to hold fundraiser

Michael Anderson Elementary School on Fairchild Air Force Base will stage its eighth annual ASB fundraiser, but unlike the one-night events most are familiar with, theirs will take place over a period of two weeks.

“We are calling our fundraiser ‘Feather Our Nest’ because the money collected enriches the learning environment at Michael Anderson,” school secretary Kim Norwalk wrote in an email.

The kick off comes on Tuesday, May 22, with an assembly where students are reminded how ASB money is used, given tips and guidelines for collecting donations and to preview the incentives available when donations are collected. Each student will be provided with an envelope to collect donations.

Over the next two weeks when students bring in a minimum donation, a variety of incentives are offered.

For example, on four of the days, students who bring in donations will receive prizes such as beach towels, art supplies or certificates from local businesses. On the other days, they will have an opportunity to participate in an extra activity at recess such as football or Twister. Donations will be collected until Tuesday, June 5.

“On Wednesday, June 6, we will hold an assembly to recognize students who have brought in the most money,” Norwalk said. “We usually have donations such as Silverwood tickets, Spokane Indian tickets, Spokane Chiefs tickets and a night at the Ramada Inn.”

One “lucky staff member” will get a pie in the face (based upon votes from one of the fundraiser days). The grade level and classes that bring in the most money will be rewarded with a dance party or extra time at Field Day, held Thursday, June 7.

Michael Anderson serves approximately 500 students of military families in preschool through fifth-grade and is part of the Medical Lake School District.

ASB accounts pay for transportation to and from field trips, registrations for the choir group and math competition, student safety patrol supplies, awards for various after school activities, supplies for the “Blankets and Books and Field Day” events, student lunch with the principal and various other items.
