Fisherman's Breakfast is April 29 - opening day

All-you-can-eat food helps raise funds for Medical Lake firefighters association

You can do your part to help Medical Lake's firefighters with a knife, fork and a spoon.

The 54th annual Fisherman's Breakfast will take place at the fire station between midnight and noon on Sunday, April 29.

Proceeds from the feast that includes all-you-can-eat sausage, eggs, hash browns, plus of course pancakes and various breakfast beverages go to help a number of causes. Tickets are $9 for adults, kids 12 and under $5 and are available at the door.

"The breakfast is our largest fundraiser and the proceeds go to the association," Billie Rae Kirwin, president of the Medical Lake Volunteer Firefighter Association said.

Proceeds help support any number of charities with monies that do not stay home to support their own.

"If a firefighter gets hurt or has some sort of circumstance in their life, as volunteers they certainly don't get paid very much," Kirwin said.

On a good year, the organization would like to see $1,000 to $1,500. This is after the cost of delivering a meal throughout the overnight hours to whomever walks in the doors.

"Whether you're a late hour, an early bird or a sleeper-inner, we've got a time you can come in and get something," Kirwin said.

The event caters of course to fishermen who converge on area lakes with the start of fishing season. But it can also attract prom attendees and any late arrivals from when bars close.

The truck bays become a cafeteria once the rigs are moved out. With a great deal of expensive equipment inside, the food area is lined with plastic. "Gear and grease don't go so well together," Kirwin said.
