Making the best of slim numbers

It will be a little easier for Medical Lake head softball coach Tim Blakely to provide his lineup this season. That’s because there will be just one team in 2018 consisting a turnout of 15 players.

Blakely said he sees it as a cycle after several years of having a junior varsity team. He coaches at the middle school, and a lot of times kids are turning out for that sport because it is the only one offered.

“When you get to the high school you have four or five other sports you can compete in,” Blakely explained.

Of the 2018 group, there are five returners from the 2017 squad that finished 8-9...
