Truman compared to Trump: Truman wins

Letter to the Editor

I was in the Navy in 1945. Franklin Delano Roosevelt passed away and Vice President Harry S. Truman was suddenly president after only eight months in office. He felt the weight of the world on his shoulders.

President Truman entered the White House with no experience. Unlike Truman, current President Donald Trump does not listen to his advisers.

Truman served in World War I, the National Guard for 30 years. Trump was deferred five times from serving.

Truman was married one time and was never unfaithful. Truman was also the poorest person to serve in the White House. He was a man’s man and well-liked and respected in the Navy.

For vacation, Truman would to go Cuba on a Navy destroyer that departed from New York. Trump takes Air Force One to Florida almost every week for vacation, which costs a lot of money. Trump was dishonest in his business deals and is still dishonest as president.

When Truman finished his eight years as president, he and his wife packed their bags and drove their car home with no Secret Service or reporters. They lived in a home inherited from Truman’s mother-in-law.

Truman lived on his National Guard pension. Later, Congress passed a bill to pay for his stamps and envelopes. Years later, after he retired, he returned to the White House and gave a piano concert for the Kennedy’s.

They said he could make money if he signed papers stating that he used items, but he would not. Truman said he would be selling the presidency and the presidency was not for sale. What a great president!

Comparing Truman to our current president is like night and day. In my opinion, Trump is the worst president.

Harry S. Truman was the best president in my 90 years of life. There were a lot of good presidents, but Truman is still the top of my list. He died Dec. 26, 1972.
