Eastern Washington University will send one of its largest contingents ever to the 2018 National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR), April 4-7, on the University of Central Oklahoma campus.

This is the second consecutive year Eastern has selected nearly 60 students to attend this prestigious academic event. Conference presenters are challenged to use their excellence, innovation and critical thinking to make poster and oral presentations on various research projects.

Topics that EWU students are presenting this year include:

 Latino Immigrants and the American Economy

 From Adolescence to Adulthood: Understanding the Reality of Substance Abuse

 Electromagnetic Propulsion for Water Vessels Utilizing Alternating Current

 The Effect of Adult Incarceration Rates on the Academic Achievement of Children: A Case Study of Washington State

 A Streetcar Named Repulsion – The Representation of Sexual Violence in Film.

NCUR gives participants the valuable opportunity to work with faculty mentors and present their scholarly abstracts and creative works in a formal, professional setting. It also gives students an excellent chance to interact, prepare for graduate school and enhance their workforce skills.

“EWU is proud to be nationally recognized for its work in undergraduate research,” Chuck Lopez, associate dean, University College at Eastern, said in a news release. “The opportunity to have so many of our students attend this respected conference shows the university is committed to engaging them in scholarly pursuits.”

EWU hosted the National Conference on Undergraduate Research in April, 2015. And since 1997 Eastern has held its own Research and Creative Works Symposium, giving students a chance to present their work to the local community.
