Cheney's Karen McCormick to appear at Mason Jar, releases single

Cheney singer-songwriter Karen McCormick is releasing her new single “Just a Song” to digital retailers on March 16. The single was produced by Matt Carey and recorded in Nashville during McCormick’s three-month internship, September – December 2017, at Warner Music.

A student at Eastern Washington University and 2013 graduate of Cheney High School, McCormick said in a news release that she got the inspiration for “Just a Song” while listening to country music star Keith Urban’s “Break on Me” on her car radio. The song brought up some special memories for McCormick that gave her inspiration.

“I realized that someone else listening to the song in that moment may not even realize that someone had an emotional attachment to it,” McCormick said. “I wanted to have a theme of nostalgia, and I think the feeling and experience is something that a lot of people can relate to.”

Onstage since the age of 16, McCormick will perform “Just a Song” and more from her repertoire at Cheney’s The Mason Jar on Thursday, March 15. She also has her own YouTube channel where a previous piece, Lil Wayne’s “How to Love” has tallied over 100,000 views.

McCormick has opened for Terry McDermott of NBC’s “The Voice,” and played at numerous venues including Cheney’s music in the park series at Sutton Park. She is currently writing and working on her debut EP.
