The newest member of the Medical Lake School Board is a familiar face in town.

Leo Spilker earned the nod in last November’s general election with his victory by a 55.5 to 43.8 percent margin over incumbent Kelly Fouts for Pos. 1.

Spilker has been a resident of Medical Lake for 37 years. “I attended Medical Lake schools and graduated from Medical Lake High School in 1980,” he wrote in an email.

As a member of the decision-making body Spilker wrote, “I look forward to collaborating with the other board members, the Superintendent and community members to further the vision and goals of the district.”

Retired after a 28-year career with the state and employed at Eastern State Hospital, Spilker and his wife, Lisa have a daughter and three grandchildren.

Spilker has coached for the Medical Lake Parks and Recreation Department and volunteers for Medical Lake Dollars for Scholars.
