Outgoing Medical Lake mayor has long history in community
The latest chapter in John Higgins' long association with Medical Lake ends on Jan. 1 when Shirley Maike assumes the mayor's seat in City Council chambers.
Higgins steps away after three terms and closes out a run of community service extending to the 1990s when he first served on the council.
But Higgins' roots are much deeper.
Born in Missouri - Higgins pronounces the name "Mis-zur-ah" as do a lot of natives of the state - the family followed his grandparents who were already in Medical Lake, arriving in 1932.
