The Cheney High School class of 1967 held their 30-year reunion with an ice breaker at the old Spokane House atop Sunset Hill. The class toured the old Cheney High School the next day and spent the evening eating and dancing at the Ramada Inn at the Airport.

Faced with the need to balance their community's increased utility demands as a result of urban growth, Airway Heights City Council had to decide whether to approve recommended rate increases to the city's water and sewer utilities.
Spokane County was considering a location in Cheney, along with nine other county sites for a new jail to be built by the time the Geiger Corrections Center lease expired in 2013.
Medical Lake Middle School received a $500 grant from the ExxonMobil Educational Alliance program to support the school's math and science programs.

A bombshell was dropped on Eastern Washington University administrators by state Sen. James West of Spokane, who formally proposed a merger of EWU and Washington State University.
Chris Gallagher converted an old auto-body repair shop located next to Seafirst Bank on First Street into a snazzy new lubrication station, Auto Lube Express. He did it all by himself – no contractors, no laborers and no hired extra help.
Eastern Washington's football head coach, Mike Kramer, was named the Big Sky Conference Coach of the Year.

Fred Johns set a record, perhaps, for the shortest period of time out of public office. Just 33 hours after finishing a two-year stint as Cheney's mayor, he was appointed to fill a vacancy on the City Council.
Over 75 guests showed up the help celebrate Elva Martin's 95th birthday at Cheney Care Center.
The Medical Lake school board began a meeting by welcoming its newest member, Rod Von Lehe. He took the oath of office along with re-elected incumbents Sharon Morasch and George Spilker.

Cheney School District teachers worked without a contract rather than submit a two-year agreement insisted upon by the district's board of directors.
The proposed annexation of property in and around the new junior high school at North Sixth and Betz roads was the topic of a joint city-school district meeting.
Kevin Amsden of Cheney High School and David Hines of Medical Lake were named to the area all-star football teams.

Volunteer leaders for the United Crusade in Cheney reported an overall total of $6,633 in contributions, up 33 percent from the prior year.
Heather Patmore was crowned queen of the annual Eastern Days celebration. Jo Ella Riggle and Judy Gill were named princesses.
Eastern Washington State College and Fairmont were gearing up to battle for the National Association for Intercollegiate Athletics championship football crown.
