The goal to operate a new dental practice is taking shape in Medical Lake for city residents.

"It's always been our dream to own and operate a dental office, and I couldn't think of a better place to do it than Medical Lake," Best Impression Dental co-owner Alicia Burton said. The business is located at the corner of State Route 902 and Lefevre St.

While significant important foundation work has been completed by Jongeward Construction before cold weather set in, business owners Alicia and Jonathan Burton staged a ceremonial groundbreaking featuring both outgoing and incoming Medical Lake Mayors John Higgins and Shirley Maike on Nov. 17.

The goal is to open doors in early June. "We're fighting Mother Nature," Jonathan Burton said." Hopefully the good weather will continue as long as we can stretch it out in November and December," he said.

Alicia Burton had been working in the community for the last five years. "I love the community, love the area," she said. She has been at Medical Lake Dental until embarking on this venture.

Jonathan Burton will help on the management side, he said. He is presently a project manager for an engineering firm.

"With the business background and Alicia running the dental side of things, I'm going to help the operations side," Jonathan Burton said.

Alicia Burton grew up in Northern Michigan in a similar climate and small town and graduated from the dental school at the University of Michigan.

The couple has two children, a 2-year-old girl and seven-week old son. They looked at the whole country, wanting four seasons, lakes and mountains when picking a place to establish themselves.

"This seemed to have it all," Alicia said. "It checked all the boxes."

"(We) love the Pacific Northwest, love the climate and look forward to being here for years to come," Alicia Burton said.

The business name is multi-faceted, Jonathan Burton said. "Your smile is an integral part of your character, how you make an impression on the folks you talk to and how you feel about yourself."

"We, as owners of the practice want to make the best impression on the patients as well," he added.

The business will offer full service dentistry with a staff that includes hygiene providers. "We're still narrowing that down," Alicia Burton said of staffing.

"The vision behind the practice is to help educate patients in regards between the link to good oral health and how that plays a role in whole body health," Alicia Burton said.
