Cheney, Medical Lake runners compete at Boise

Cheney High School cross country runners competed in the NXR Northwest Regional Championships last Saturday, Nov. 11, on the 5,000-meter course at Eagle Island State Park in Boise, Idaho.

Running as team Pacific Pod, the Cheney girls finished 20th out of 23 teams while the boys were 23rd out of 39 teams composed of runners from programs throughout Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Alaska, Montana and Wyoming. Athletes competed in three divisions — Rising Star, Open and Championship — with Cheney’s contingent running in the Open Division/Section 2.

Hannah Spakousky led the Pacific Pod women, finishing 39th out of 228 runners overall with a time of 20 minutes, 15.58 seconds. Mayah Spakousky was 160th, Alexia Batchelor 162, Brette Draper 169th and Ryleigh Bowes 185.

Bas Holland led the Pacific Pod men, finishing 11th out of 306 runners in 16:30.68. Tucker Cunningham was 148th, Beckett Schoenleber 158th, Patrick Purviance 193rd, Julian Torres 195th, Sam Steele 237th and Dillon Newbry 251st.

Medical Lake High School runners also competed at NXR, running as team Cardinals and finishing 10th in Open Division/Section 2 with 315 points. The Cardinals men were led by Tyler Pena, 21st in a time of 16:47.16.

Pena was followed by Tyler Henry (61st), Evan Peterson (63rd), Mason Williams (105th), Quintin Collins (152nd), Nicholas Henry (206th) and Zachary Lewis (212th).
