Eastern Washington offering pay-by-phone parking meters

Eastern Washington University is partnering with one of the fastest growing mobile payment companies in the world, PayByPhone Technologies Inc., to give students more options to pay campus meters.

The PayByPhone app gives students more options to pay the meters than the previous system, which would not allow the application to download on certain phones. In addition to utilizing a phone app, PayByPhone also offers an 800 number for customers to call and pay.

EWU’s director of parking and transportation services, Michelle Rasmussen, says students will also save money because the new vendor charges a smaller fee for its service. Rasmussen also notes PayByPhone ties into the new license plate recognition software so enforcement can monitor all locations more effectively.

“This is an easy to use system that will make parking around campus easier and quicker for students and visitors,” says Rasmussen.

Users can download the iPhone or Android app, enter m.paybyphone.com in their phone browser, or call 1.866.234.7275 to register for an account. You will need your mobile phone number, credit card and license plate to register. Once registered, users can park in two easy steps: Enter the location number posted on the meter, and then enter your parking duration

The next time you call or log in to park, your details will be automatically recognized. There is even the option to extend a parking session from anywhere.

Parking and Transportation Services (PTS) provides parking guidance and assistance to the Cheney campus community and the public.
