Airway Heights City Council adopts Highway 2 Revitalization Project report

At the Aug. 7 Airway Heights City Council meeting, the council unanimously passed the request to adopt the Highway 2 Safety and Revitalization Project report. With the approval, it puts the plan into action between the months of September and October to break down what will be happening in different areas of the city.

The Airway Heights Planning Commission had previously approved the report at their special July 26 meeting.

A list of other things were also on the agenda as the council unanimously approved the purchase approval register in the amount of $48,833.45 to Century West Engineering, $9,064.83 to Witherspoon Kelley for legal services and DW Excavating for the Garfield, Russell and Sprague Phase 1.

Next on the list was council unanimously approving of the June warrant/check register which is claims and payroll vouchers that totaled $633,657.28.

Staff also requested City Council approve supply of various computers and accessories, tools, miscellaneous office equipment, furniture, city vehicles and vehicle equipment to help finalize the Sekani 3rd addition, located northeast of Walmart. The council passed the request with no objections.

The council also addressed the change of Ordinance C-894 that started back in 2013. Prior to changing the ordinance, the land could be multi-family use but it has now changed to only being able to use the land for commercial use only.

The last item on the agenda was appointing a new deputy mayor. The council appointed Councilman Doyle Inman to fill the position until the end of the year.

During citizen comments, Keith Byers approached the council about wanting something to be done about his neighbors not having mufflers on their cars and making too much noise with their vehicles.
