Miller has earned public trust to be judge

Letter to the Editor

We may disagree, from time to time, on politics. However, we agree and trust that J. Scott Miller is the best candidate for Spokane County Superior Court. Miller has defined himself as a highly qualified lawyer over the past thirty years. His whole career based out of Spokane, Scott has represented clients all the way to the Washington State Supreme Court. And won.

We trust Miller because we know that his broad knowledge of the law is necessary in Superior Court. The complexity of cases before a Superior Court Judge requires Scott’s expansive background. Lawyers who have never represented the array of private individuals and businesses that Scott has represented may struggle with these types of cases. Scott’s legal body of work has prepared him to serve in a way that will maximize every party’s experience in court.

Scott and his wife Sue raised four children here and built a trusted law practice in Spokane. Scott began serving the Spokane community many years ago, donating his legal experience to his church, low-income housing providers and other trusted community programs. He also serves as an adjunct professor at the Gonzaga School of Law and Whitworth University, passing on his enthusiasm and knowledge of legal and business practices to our next generation of leaders.

Trust is the most important aspect of serving on the Superior Court bench. Trust is built over time, and J. Scott Miller has earned our trust because of his thirty years of practice, his commitment to the Spokane County community, and his strong work ethic. A judge should work as hard as the people that she or he serves.

In our free democracy, great trust is placed in voters. You place great trust in your elected civil servants. We trust that you will study the candidates and the issues and exercise your right and responsibility to vote on or before Aug. 1.

George Nethercutt, former U.S. House of Representatives

(Republican)

Phil Talmadge, former Washington State Supreme Court Justice (Democrat)
