Cheney Congregational Church

We welcome all to Sunday worship. We are celebrating our new signs as they proclaim our new name: “Cheney Congregational Church.” We’ve added some icons that tell passersby some things that have long been true about our church.

We’ve always tried to be accessible. The church was built 50 years ago without steps — and the only place we have steps we also have a ramp. Last year, with help from the Cheney Building Department, we redesigned the bathrooms to near ADA standards.  So we have a wheelchair disability icon on the sign.

The sound system we put in a few years back has great clarity of sound, but we also have telecoil technology.  We have a hearing icon on our sign. We have long been welcoming of people from the LGBT community.  We are not people who sort others into groups or categories. We now have a rainbow icon to say as much. Come and worship with us.

Emmanuel Lutheran Church

The congregation of Emmanuel Lutheran Church invites you to worship with us this Sunday, July 2. Coffee hour follows the worship service. You may also watch our pastor’s sermons at our website or on YouTube at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Cheney.

Emmanuel’s VBS Day Camp program is scheduled for July 17 – 21. Registration forms are now available. You may pick up a registration form for each child at 639 Elm St. at the front door above the mailbox. For more information call 235-6300.

All are welcome to visit Emmanuel’s Little Free Library and Free Community Pantry located at 639 Elm St. Donations of books, non-perishable food and personal care items are gladly accepted. Both are open to the community 24/7. Thank you for your support.

St. Paul’s Episcopal Church

A welcoming haven, nourishing all God’s people in body, mind and spirit. The Rev. Christine Soule will preach and preside this Sunday.

Best wishes and prayers to all graduates. May you find and do good work. Our community garden is growing as we look forward to all summer giving its proceeds to the Cheney Food Bank.

Attention all college students: The Episcopal, Lutheran and Methodist Campus Ministry is on break for the summer. ELM will resume meeting every Monday evening at 5 p.m. for dinner, study and worship in September. For more information, contact Soule at 844-2553.

Alcoholics Anonymous meets every Saturday morning at 11:30 a.m. in the parish hall.

For your contemplation: “We are a community of pardon, not a community of judgment. We are told not to judge one another and we must not. We must not judge in such a way as to reject and condemn. That is to say we not refuse to accept the genuine good will of our brother and sister, we not reject their sincere and open offers of reconciliation, their true friendship. Even our enemy must not be judged, but his need for forgiveness must be recognized. We must not judge, that is to say we must always be ready to take the first step in offering reconciliation and pardon. We must not let our evaluations of a person’s acts stand in the way of the Holy Spirit, who draws us to unity with the ‘other’ in spite of his actions which make him/her different from ourselves, perhaps opposed to us. We have a duty to pardon, because it is through us that God wishes to pardon all sinners,” – Thomas Merton.

United Methodist Church

Join us for worship and the celebration of Holy Communion this Sunday at the United Methodist Church. This Sunday pastor Alissa Bertsch Johnson will interview parishioner Craig Speirs as the sermon series “Lives on Fire: The Holy Spirit in our Midst” continues. Each Sunday during this series a church member shares how the Holy Spirit has worked in their life. Please stay for a time of fellowship following worship.

Mark your calendar now for the annual parking lot sale at the church on July 8. A variety of items will be available at this “name your own price” sale event.

Sunday school classes are now in recess for the summer but other study groups are available. Please call the church office at 235-4600 for additional information
