Seventeen recruits graduate from structural fire academy

The West Plains Recruit Structural Academy graduated 17 firefighters from its recent class during a June 8 ceremony at Medical Lake High School's auditorium.

The academy consists of firefighter recruits from Airway Heights and Medical Lake fire departments and Spokane County Fire District 10. Completing the academy requires a large time commitment by new recruits as they spend about four and a half months and over 200 hours of hands-on training.

Recruit firefighters are: Airway Heights - Sean Campbell, Anja Dean, Gabriel Liagre, Kathryn Lonam, Aaron Roach, John Travis Tillman and Tiahnna Willms; Medical Lake - Ben Bauer, Jedidiah Roberts and William Wright and Spokane County Fire District 10 - Nick de Langis, Kyle Keeling, Nicholas Monroe, Kurtis Robinson, Daniel Salgado, Davis Smith and Emily Waltson.

Award winners re: Chief's Company - Sean Campbell, Tiahnna Willms, Nick de Langis, Kyle Keeling and David Smith, The Jake Award - Sean Campbell, Valedictorian and The Bulldog Award - Nick de Langis and Most Improved - Daniel Salgado.
