William (Bill) Eugene Malley

Bill was born in Philadelphia. on Jan. 5, 1945. He was the oldest child born to William Eugene Malley II and Anna Mary Malley. The family soon moved to California where he lived his childhood days with his mother and four other siblings.

He joined the U.S. Air Force in June 1963 as an aircraft mechanic and he loved anything mechanical. Bill enjoyed trying to figure out how they work. He had a hunger to learn.

Following his tenure in the Air Force, he jumped around with many different types of jobs. Bill later traveled to Washington state where he met his second wife, Allene Malley.

He created his painting business on the west side of the state called Bill the $18 Painter. Later on, he, his bride and stepchildren who he helped raise, moved to Spokane.

After a few years living in Spokane, Bill and Allene discovered Cheney and fell in love with the city. As their children went on to their own families, they both created another business in Cheney called First Street Books in 1991. The business flourished until his bride lost her battle with cancer in December 1997.

Bill continued to run his painting business and closed the bookstore. He kept painting until his health prevented him from doing so. He retired to writing and kept on learning new things. He wrote and published five books on Amazon. He loved spending time with the family. He also enjoyed the Sunday dinners at his stepdaughter Trish's house. She spent many hours with him prior to his death on March 29, 2017 at Veteran's Administration Home in Spokane. Bill was loved by the Cheney community and people will remember his good spirited attitude toward life.

Bill is survived by his mother, Mary; his siblings: Margaret, Patricia, Frank Malley and Joe Malley. He is also survived by step children: Doug Flatbush, Kathy Satoro, Trish Gainer and Rob Flatbush along with his sons-in-law, Allan Gainer and Greg Satoro. He is also survived by his nine grandchildren.

Bill will be memorialized at the Washington State Veterans Cemetery and his ashes will join his wife's at an undisclosed location.
