The players in the newly renovated Corner Closet Boutique in Medical Lake include employee Jordan Demar, Justin Earley, who did much of the heavy lifting in the changeover, and Jess Earley, who will do double-duty in the store and next door at her salon, Studio D.
Jess Earley did not want to see the neighboring business, the Corner Closet Boutique in Medical Lake, close its doors.
To make sure that did not happen, Earley will add to the workload at Studio D salon and take over the spot that previous owner, Peg Asbury, ran since 2016.
"I got a little bit of a whiff of opportunity, I could not help myself," Earley said. "So I decided I needed to own the whole corner."
With Asbury the only one working the business, it became too much for her, Earley said. "People have loved that place so much I couldn't stand to see it close," she added.
Under Asbury's direction, the business featured racks of gently used clothing for both women and men. Asbury called it a "higher end consignment," store in a Feb. 11, 2016 Cheney Free Press story. "We try to take in nicer things; we do consignment or we offer customer store credit," she added.
The store now has a significant new look. "We've torn everything out and redone everything," Earley said. "It's not even the same store," she added of the business that had a grand re-opening in March.
Some of the inventory from before is being evaluated. If a customer comes in one week, Earley said she does not want the same merchandise a week later. "I want to make sure it's a different store every time you visit it."
Earley has a large inventory of winter clothing and accessories and longs to get that moved out and introduce a line of spring items.
As for her original business, the salon, which she has owned since August 2016, Earley said that, too, is undergoing some changes, albeit small. There is one stylist, plus Earley, currently on staff. "We are getting a barber, also," she said. "There's lots of changes happening."
