Medical Lake girls tennis ends skid

When is two a mighty large number?

If it is the first tennis team wins for the Medical Lake girls since 2015.

Behind the singles victory of Heather Barr, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4, plus easy doubles wins from the sister act of Sydney and Lyndsey Cazier (6-2, 6-0) and Emily Zunker and partner Elsa Henningsson (6-0, 6-1), the Cardinals collected a 3-2 Northeast A League win over Chewelah April 11.

“Heather’s match was a battle,” co-head coach Dawn Eliassen said. “They were real evenly matched players, so there were lots of balls hit for each point.”

Medical Lake followed two days later with another 3-2 win at Lakeside. This time it was the singles’ players, Jasmine Uribes (2-6, 6-1, 6-3) and Heather Barr (6-3, 6-4) who won key games with Zunker and Henningsson helping wrap up the win at No. 2 doubles, 7-6(5), 7-5.

The Cardinals concluded the week with a 5-0 loss at home to Colville.
