Richard Snella

Richard Snella, 75, of Medical Lake, Wash., passed away Friday, March 17, 2017 at a local hospital after a long illness.

Richard is survived by his wife of 57 years, DeAnna, daughter Cheryl Spilker, son Marty Snella (Davetta Garcia), granddaughter Lauren (Alex) Leiber, grandson Scott (Holly) Spilker, granddaughter Amy Snella (Conrad Gabel), granddaughter Shannon Spilker and great-granddaughters Madison and Harper. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Florian and Lottie, and his sister Connie.

Richard was born July 18, 1941 in Detroit, Mich. to Florian and Lottie Snella. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1959.  His 21 year career took him to several states and a tour in Thailand as an aircraft mechanic and ended as a quality control superintendent.

After retiring from the Air Force as a senior master sergeant in 1980, he went to school and earned an associate's degree in welding. He then served 17 years as a civil servant in General Services Administration in fleet management.

He was proud of his many careers with the United States government, but nothing made him as proud as his family.  He loved the family he created with DeAnna and spent countless hours supporting Cheryl and Marty at their many sporting events, going on hunting and fishing trips, working on school projects, and sharing many life-stories.

As grandchildren (and great-grandchildren) entered the picture, his love for his family grew immensely. He beamed with pride whenever he got the chance to talk about them. He was greatly loved and will be truly missed by his entire family.

At Richard's request, no services will be held.  Memorial donations can be made in Richard's name to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or Hospice of Spokane. Cheney Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
