The West Plains community lost one of its most beloved educators when former Cheney School District superintendent Phil Snowdon passed away after a battle with cancer.

Reinstatement of a state law making driving with suspended license a criminal offense caused a jump in the number of criminal cases for the Medical Lake municipal courts.

Sala Thai owners Pat and Mam Smitamorn made sure that the food quality never changed even when the ownership of the Airway Heights restaurant did.

April 3, 1997

Kids from around the area gathered at Salnave Park to scramble for thousands of eggs and meet with the Easter Bunny.

Chris Thompson, a senior at Cheney High School was named his school's Student of the Month chosen by the Cheney Lions Club.

Both the Cheney High boys and girls golf teams picked up victories over the visiting team from Lake City High of Coeur d'Alene.

April 2, 1987

Cheney welcomed back Dr. Alexander Schilt back to town, but this time as the president-designate of Eastern Washington University.

With its pitching staff overcoming control problems and coach Jim Wasem and players rebounding from illness, the EWU baseball team embarked this week on its Pac-10 Conference North Division schedule.

Medical Lake School District's Superintendent Duane Heidenreich was in Washington, D.C. trying to help work out a problem with the nation's schools who received Impact Aid money.

March 31, 1977

Bids were opened for the drilling of a 1,300 foot deep well near Salnave Park

Nearly $450 worth of goods were stolen from the Fireside Restaurant at 809 First St. in Cheney.

All of the shouting may have been for nothing during the discussion of the proposed Medical Lake area mini-prison at Eastern Washington State Hospital. If the Washington State Legislature follows the recommendation by Gov. Dixie Lee Ray, the plan was to defer plans to construct a maximum-security prison in Spokane County.

April 6, 1967

The annual Junior Livestock Show was held at a new location on the grounds of the Cheney High School vocational agriculture shop.

The Brothers Four, one of the top folk singing groups in the country, was to perform at Eastern Washington State College.

Bob Reitmeier, George Spilker and Clarence Rider were named honorary Chapter Farmers at Medical Lake's annual parent-son FFA banquet.
