Cardinal boys tennis finally face opponent

It took three tries, but Medical Lake's boys' tennis team finally got to face an opponent on the court.

While the result, a 4-1 nonleague loss to Cheney, was maybe not what co-head coach Jake Wesselman had in mind, just being able to compete was rewarding.

"This was our first match of the season and our third time out on the courts due to weather constraints," Wesselman said. "Overall, we struggled in some areas of our game, but with limited court time, we weren't really concerned with our play, we just needed to play points out."

Noah Ray earned Medical Lake's lone victory at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-0 over Aaron Fillmore.

"We witnessed some very promising points and games that proved our guys have the ability to be extremely successful," Wesselman said. One of the closer contests was at No. 2 doubles where Nathan McShane and Caleb Snow dropped a 1-3, 3-6 decision to the Blackhawks' Hunter Pohl and Jesse Black.

After traveling to play Freeman March 21, Medical Lake, the defending Northeast A League champions host Chewelah today (March 23) at 3:30 p.m.
