Former Eastern Washington State College head coach Jerry Krause (center) brought together players from many corners of the country during his 17 years in Cheney. But none seemed to come from as diverse backgrounds - nor had as lasting an impact - as did Ed Waters (left) and Ron Cox (right). The three reunited last October when the 1976-77 Eastern Washington State College Savages were inducted into the school's Athletic Hall of Fame.

When largely different lives — and their respective basketball worlds and cultures — first collided back in 1973 in Cheney, there was no telling what the result might be.
But fast-forward 40-plus years later and the results were records and a friendship that have largely stood the test of time.
