Betty Mae Labish

Betty Mae Labish, 94, born Feb. 2, 1922, to Walter and Henrietta Rupp, in Cheney, Wash., peacefully passed away surrounded by her family, on Jan. 24, 2017, at Deaconess Hospital in Spokane.

Betty, spent her entire life in the Cheney - Medical Lake area where she met and married the "love of her life," John Labish, on Dec. 28, 1941, and together raised their four children.

Betty retired from Lakeland Village as a medical secretary, and started her very active life making "prize winning" quilts, doing woodwork and crafts, painting, gardening and taking trips, both long and short. She loved spending time with her family, friends, the Quilting Club, Card Club, and was an active member of the Washington State Retired Employees Association where she held different offices, the most recent being treasurer.

Betty was honored to have been chosen as the grand marshal for the Medical Lake Founder's Day Parade. She was an avid reader and musician, playing piano, accordion and guitar. She spent time with her friends and family playing pinochle and/or Mexican Train until the end of her life.

Betty also attended church at Hayford Community Church.

She is survived by her sons, Gerald (Stacy) Labish, Monroe, Wash.; Raymond (Ann) Labish, Airway Heights. and Walter (Linda) Labish, Sun City, Ariz.; daughter Joanne Siegel, Post Falls, Idaho; six grandchildren; her brother, Harvey (Nelda) Rupp, Portland, Ore.; sister, Dorothy Burkhart, Portland, Ore., and multiple nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John and her sister, Eleanor Kiner.
