Eugene Arthur Artz

Eugene Arthur Artz, 75, passed away Jan. 7, 2017 after a battle with cancer. Gene was born June 13, 1941 in Honolulu, Hawaii and was a civilian survivor of the attack on Pearl Harbor. He grew up in Hawaii and later in Medical Lake, which he would later call his home.

After an early call to the church and education as a seminarian, Gene would find his true calling that of a soldier. He served his country for over 22 years, first in the Army 14th Calvary and then for 19-1/2 years in the U.S. Air Force. His service included combat in Vietnam and Southeast Asia.

In retirement, Gene returned to Medical Lake to make a home for his family. He worked for the Spokesman Review for 26 years, remained a family man and an active member of his community.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Susan Paula; son David Eugene (wife Alice) and brother Robert Emanuel (wife Andred, son Jason, daughter Aimee).

Farewell Gene, until we are all reunited. We love you. As requested by Gene, there will be no service. Arrangements made by Cheney Funeral Chapel.
