SCSO to offer women's self-defense course

The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office is offering two introductory women’s self-defense courses on Jan. 14, 2017. The first session runs from 8 a.m. – noon and the second is from 1-5 p.m. Both classes are at the Sheriff’s Office training center located at 6011 North Chase Road, Newman Lake.

The course teaches basic women’s self-defense tactics including deterrents, avoidance and detection of personal attack. Students will also learn basic defense maneuvers. The courses will be led by Sheriff’s Office defensive tactics instructors.

Those interested in attending the course should email their name and phone number to SCSOTraining@spokanesheriff.org., and send a payment of $25 to the address listed. Checks payable to Spokane County Sheriff’s Office. The maximum class size is 20 students.

Students should also bring note-taking materials, athletic gear, shoes, a water bottle and a towel.
