Phoebe R. Smith

Phoebe R. Smith, 89, passed away on Nov. 19, 2016 at her home in Cheney. Phoebe was born in Lincoln, Neb. on Sept. 2, 1927 to Everett and Lena (Schee) Pringle.

She lived in Denver, Colo. where her family farmed and after graduating high school in Denver she went to Seattle where she met and married Bill Smith at the age of 18. They lived in Pasco, Wash. for 23 years.

The couple then moved and spent the next 47 years in Cheney. Phoebe worked at the libraries in Pasco and Cheney as well as helping her husband with his work and music. She was also involved in the Red Hats and other local ladies groups.

Phoebe will be greatly missed by her sons Bill and Chad Smith, daughter Jewel Baccarella (Pete) as well as grandchildren, Shelly Smith, Zain (Cate) Smith, Sharifa  Nelson, Elizabeth Drumm (Ralf), Ben Baccarella (Debbie) Alison Baccarella and Amy Sorensen (Jeff), along with many great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and special friends Erika Fisher and Polly Holloway.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 68 years William Smith, her son Michael Smith, sisters Marjorie, Charlene, June and brother Chuck.

A memorial service will be held at Cheney Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, Dec. 6, at 11 a.m. A reception will follow at Jewel Baccarella's home, 1717 Seventh St. in Cheney. Visit the online guestbook at cheneyfuneral.com
