SCSO offers women's self-defense course

The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office is offering an introductory women’s self-defense course, Nov. 5 from 8 a.m. – noon at its training center located at 6011 North Chase Road, Newman Lake.

The course teaches basic women’s self-defense tactics including deterrents, avoidance and detection of personal attack. Students will also learn basic defense maneuvers. Deputy Darin Powers, who is a lead control/defensive tactics master instructor for the Sheriff’s Office, will teach the course.

Those interested in attending the course should email their name and phone number to SCSOTraining@spokanesheriff.org., and send a payment of $25 to the address listed. Checks payable to Spokane County Sheriff’s Office. Students should also bring note taking materials, athletic gear and shoes, a water bottle and a towel.
