EMS, property tax revenues up

Cheney will see more general fund revenue in 2017, thanks to levy lift, increased valuations

Cheney’s City Council officially got their budget season underway at their Oct. 27 meeting by following up a public hearing on the city’s 2017 general property and emergency medical services (EMS) levies with the passage of ordinances authorizing the county to collect those revenues when the new year rolls around.

The city is projecting a property and EMS levy amount of $2,054,400 in 2017, an increase of $122,000 over 2016’s budgeted amount of $1,931,600. Of that 2017 figure, $275,500 is for EMS, an increase of $12,000 from 2016, with the rest — $1,778,900 made up in collected property taxes....
