Williams sets career goals record in win over Weber State

Another record is in the books for Eastern Washington’s Chloe Williams, as she took sole possession of the school’s all-time career goals record with a score in the 18th minute of a 3-0 shutout over visiting Weber State on Sunday, Oct. 9.

Eastern improved to 10-1-2 (13 points) and 4-0-1 in the Big Sky Conference, while Weber State drops to 5-7-1 and 3-3 in the BSC. Eastern trails Idaho (5-1-0, 15 points). Eastern is now unbeaten in its last nine games with seven wins and a pair of ties.

In the second half, Williams was once again driving the ball and sent a cross over to the waiting Devan Talley as she punched in the goal for a 2-0 lead in the 58th minute. Involving herself on every Eastern score this afternoon, Williams would add on to the record in the 71st minute with a shot from 20 yards out.

Entering the game, Williams was tied with Cassie Black (2011-14) at 24 career goals.

“I think overall, that’s our best 90 minutes of play this season,” head coach Chad Bodnar said. “We scored some really, really nice goals today and had some nice combination plays on offense.”

Mallory Taylor earned her third-straight shutout, collecting two saves on the way to the win and EWU’s defense now has a 304 minute scoreless streak.

The Eagles travel to Southern Utah for their next match Friday, Oct. 14. They follw that with a contest at Weber State Oct. 16. They return home Oct. 21 to face Northern Colorado.
